I am a local artist based here in the Villages area after recently retiring.
I have enjoyed working with my hands ever since I was a kid. When most of my friends were going to the movies or playing outside, I was in my dad's garage tinkering around to try and build something from nothing. In college, I designed and built all my own furniture from whatever I could salvage from other students' furniture they would discard at the end of the semester and often would do the same for my college friends. Always tuition challenged, the furnishings I designed for my friends often partially funded my college education. So, fast forward 40 years later and now that I have retired from my “day job”, I have come to embrace the idea of doing this full time. Over the years I have designed and built art pieces and furnishings just for family and close friends. The response and appreciation for these unique designs have been very positive, as well as rewarding from a creative perspective.
Most of my projects incorporate the repurposing of older furniture or the use of recycled lumber. For example, the wine cabinet displayed in the gallery section was originally an entertainment center. After carefully dismantling the unit, I was able to salvage the doors and hardware to reimagine it into the wine cabinet that you see. Distressing the wood and refinishing is actually my favorite part of the process, as it gives the piece new life by adding that rustic touch and make it feel like it has been here forever. The gallery represents but a small sampling of the pieces that I have designed. If there is something you have in mind, please email me at JLSnyder2020@yahoo.com or cell number 626.230.7756 and I will work with you to create a unique item for your home or office. I only need to know what specific furnishing you would like, approximate size and a color range preference. The final product will be of my own design and built as close to your specifications as possible. I am always designing new pieces, so please check back often to see new additions to the gallery. Personalized items make great gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduation, weddings, anniversaries, housewarming and of course, Christmas.
On a final note, I would like to thank all of those who have purchased one of my creations and all who have encouraged me to pursue this next chapter in my life.
Thank you.
